Welcome to Bananas! Bananas Early Learning and Childcare work in partnership with Scottish Borders Council to provide the Scottish Government entitlement of  600 hours of free Early Learning and Childcare (ELC).We are a small, friendly organisation, which has been providing term time daycare for children in the Broughton area since 1970. Bananas ELC operates from purpose built premises and extensive outdoor areas attached to Broughton Primary School. We cater for children 3-5 years of age and, follow the Scottish Government Guidelines,  Curriculum for Excellence, Building the Ambition and “How Good is our Early Learning and Childcare” within a play setting.

We aim to provide a breadth of activities, experiences and outcomes to support the Curriculum for Excellence. Through challenging and enjoyable play, the children will be encouraged to progress at their own rate to become confident, caring , responsible and successful individuals.

We are very proud of our achievements and participate in quality assurance schemes with regular inspections from regulatory authorities such as the Care Inspectorate and HM Inspectors of Education. All our staff undertake relevant training courses and share the desire to provide the highest possible quality of care.  All employees at Bananas ELC are aware of Child Protection issues and follow local area child protection procedures. All staff are registered with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Staff are prepared and trained in Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC)

We are a parent-run organisation – as a parent, guardian or carer of children attending Bananas, you automatically become a member. The management committee is elected each year from amongst the membership.  Open meetings are held on a termly basis, to which everyone is invited.

We want the best for our children and we put a lot of work into making sure that the care we provide is safe, supporting, stimulating, educative and, above all, fun. We hope you will join us in going “bananas”!
